Oasis OH-1 Original Guitar Humidifier $17.95 The body of the Blue Oasis Guitar Humidifier is made from a specially designed fabric that allows water vapor (but not water) to pass through it. As the vapor transmission takes place, a vacuum is created and Oasis shrinks to compensate for the loss of water. By watching the Oasis humidifier shrink, you can determine when it is ready for refill. When refilling, you don't have to guess when it is full. Simply unscrew the black cap, fill with water to the top of the container and replace the cap. Once sealed, the watertight container is your first line of defense against leaks. Humigel, the super absorbent polymer crystals inside the Oasis Humidifier, are your second line of defense. Humigel captures up to 500 times its weight in water in an absorbent gel matrix.Like other sound hole humidifiers, Oasis fits between the strings of your instrument. The materials that touch your strings are relatively soft and will not scratch your strings. A blue polyurethane stabilizing bar fits over the neck of the guitar humidifier. Once positioned in the sound hole, the stabilizing bar lies across the guitar strings to ensure even weight distribution. Oasis never touches the body of your guitar. For normal seasonal humidification (down to 25% relative humidity), most guitarists can rely on the original Blue Oasis. The Oasis provides humidification for 7-10 days before needing to be refilled. |

Help with a guitar beginner?
For Christmas, I'm probably going to ask my parents to buy me a cheap acoustic guitar; I've been wanting to learn for a while, but I was always too scared to mention this to my mom. Anyways, I was thinking about getting this: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-IJV50-JamPack-Quick-Start-103563631-i1150606.gc
I'm gonna go to a Guitarcenter near me and check it out. I was thinking about an electric guitar, but it seems like a much more expensive option and I'd rather stick to acoustic, rather than go from easy to hard. Is this a good choice? What else would I need? Is a humidifier necessary(I live in the Bay Area, pretty mild weather, never too cold(like below 40s) or too hot(above 90s))? What strings should I buy? Tips? Do they need to "set" the guitar up for me to play? Please and thank you!
ibanez is a decent brand. sounds like a good deal to me.
i started off with acoustic. electric guitars are more expensive obviously. my suggestion is, if you want to get an electric, get a cheap one (100-200 bucks), because people tend to quit guitar easily. you don't want to get an expensive guitar and then later decide to quit and put it away...
i don't think you need a humidifier. i'm sure your acoustic guitar can handle it.
all you need to do once you get the guitar is get the strings, if they have already provide you with strings, ask them to tune it for you. it's quite simple if you want to do it yourself. buy a tuner and just follow it.
i personally prefer classical acoustic strings because they're much softer on your fingers.
D'adario is my favourite brand
