How much to replace a broken bridge on an acoustic guitar?
So recently I inherited an old guitar from a friend. It's a plain acoustic one. a Gretsch. That's what the tag says. (I know nothing of guitars. I just wanted to learn the basics of how to play!!!)
Anyways, as my friend was restringing it something horrible happened. The bridge snapped in half pretty much because the original owner threw a too big of saddle on there and gave it to me. (He figured it was no big deal cause it's not like i am a musician or anything of the sort... i said if it would saveme money then sure why not...).
Because i didnt pay him for it- i don't care that it broke.... and I am not going to ask him for money to fix it ... even though he takes all the blame.
But I am just curious as to what type of price range i would be looking at to have it fixed?
It's really hard to estimate. I think could expect a minimum of $100 labor plus the price of a bridge if the old one can't be glued. Depending on how much set-up is necessary the price could double. Remember, you'll need a new saddle and the action will have to be reset. Gretsch makes good guitars. Since the guitar is free, for the same cost as a cheap beginners guitar you may be able to get this one fixed and end up with a nice instrument. The best thing to do is to bring it to a guitar shop and get an estimate. They can tell you if it's worth putting money into
