What's the best value electric guitar and amp for the lowest price?
I'm looking to learn how to play the electric guitar. I'm learning by my brother-in-law who assists with the worship team at his church.
But, I'm looking to purchase a guitar, presumably with an amp, but I don't really know what to be looking for both style wise and price wise. Can I have some answers?
Start by looking around the music stores and getting a feel for what you can afford. Amp size will depend on what type of sound system your church is using. No PA at church and you might need a larger (no larger than a 100 watt) amp if the other instruments will drown you out. If there is a PA you might be able to get by with a 30 -50 amp and mike through the PA system for a complete mix.
Guitars are very subjective. Did you want to start with a $175 Strat Squire; my son owned one of those for a while and it's an OK starter. Or a Epiphone Les Paul for $ 200 - $ 300 is also a good start. If your not happy with the sound the instrument makes you can always change the pick-ups to a 'hotter' brand (Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio etc).
