classical guitar question (from complete beginner)?
when using my right hand should i hit the string with my nail (so that my finger is going downwards) or should i sort of pull the string up with the fleshy part of my finger, by up i dont mean away from the guitar but parallel to it.
thanks
and is it the same for both free stroke and rest stroke?
Regardless of whether you're executing a free stroke or rest stroke, your finger should pull the string "up" (towards your head). Your nails should be short, but still long enough to grab a piece of the string (about 1/8" or 1/4" on your right hand). Technically speaking, you shouldn't ever have to use the flesh of your finger to initiate tone on the string; it should always be your nail.
