You are much better off getting lessons. Most people who try to self-teach, fail.
I have never really cared for Fender acoustics and I don't think too much of dreadnoughts in general. I much prefer the Yamaha FS720S or some other 000 size acoustic guitar. They are more comfortable to play and have a more balanced tonal range.
