Guitar Mariachi Mexican
Best way(s) to go about learning how to play guitar-based Mexican music (of any variety) in Los Angeles?

I'd also like to know a good sub-$500.00 classical guitar (or whatever the appropriate guitar style is) to learn/play the music on. I've played guitar for the last 15 years or so and can finger-pick, read some music and have a basic intuitive understanding of the music but have yet to find any comprehensive or even introductory books out there. I'm thinking I should try to take lessons with a mariachi but wonder how best to even go about that.

Anyhow, the love is there. Boleros and corridos and son huasteca are all excellent. I'm particularly into the Revolutionary corridos and hero songs, great love songs from the 20s and 30s and 40s and the improvisational music of Veracruz.

Trying to be specific here.

Any help would be appreciated.

¡Muchas gracias a Ud.!

I don't know much about Mexican music, but I know the best way to learn whatever style you want on guitar is to listen, imitate and absorb the kind of music you want to play. Just listen to you're favorite flamenco music, try to play it on your guitar(use you ear NOT tab, thats the most important). After a while you will start to understand how it's made, you'll see typical patterns and phrases and slowly it will come through in your playing.
