I want to know what "medullar rays"on a solid spruce classical guitar means. Thanks a lot.?
I already read about the quality of the spruce used on the solid classical guitars on the internet,but I really can't find what is the sign of these rays on the top of the guitars.
Medullar rays, a botanical term, refers to sheets of (vertical) conducting tissue that run radially through the vascular tissues of (some of) the higher plants, in your case the trees that supplied the wood for the instruments.
In such woods, when planed, polished and finished, medullar rays often produce outstanding patterns of what we experience as beautiful figuration, flecks & flames, silver grain etc., by which means you can, of course, also recognise their presence.
