do you think i can teach myself to play the violin?
weeell i play the steel pans and i have played the guitar for a chort while when i was in year 7 (im in year 8 now) and i want to teach myself to play the violin i love performing arts although i want to be a sports woman i still try hard to keep up with performing arts, anyway back to the point if i buy a violin wich brand should i buy? and what books should i get to teach me? also i would be looking at videos on youtube. etc and i have two friends who play the violin so... do you think it will work?
you can teach yourself, but you will never play as well as you would with a teacher. in fact, no amount of previous musical experience qualifies you to teach yourself the violin and excel at it. you CAN teach yourself but you may not be content with the results. just being brutally honest.
also your question of "what brand" of violin you should buy already shows that you are on the wrong track. brands have no bearing on violin quality at all, unlike guitars, because each one is unique with its own parameters.
your two friends might not be good influence on proper technique either, unless they are professional violinists, serious students, or teachers themselves, because the average violinist knows nothing on how to teach another proper form.
