How in the world do you tune a mandolin?
My parents gave me a really nice 8-string Ovation mandolin, and I have no idea how to tune it! I play the acoustic guitar so I own a tuner (which needs new batteries, by the way...), but I don't think that will work for the mandolin. We have a piano, so can I tune it by that?
Oh yeah and any ideas for learning how to play it would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks! 
Tune the lowest set of two strings to your guitar's G string. Be sure it is in tune first. (get batteries!) Then , going up from the low G, tune the strings to D/ then A/ then E. Each is five notes (five white keys on the piano) up from the last one. Each double string set is tuned in unison- so you get GG/DD/AA/EE
