Metals question which is the best for a bike frame design?
In the design of a bike frame please help me identify appropriate material and explain your logic for the following
- performance
- environmental impact
- economic performance
some (but not restricted to) materials are carbon steel, alloy steel, aluminium alloys, magnesium alloys, titanium alloys, GFRP, CFRP, nylon, even wood.
Help me analyse each one and come up with what's most suitable for the above (performance, environmental impact and economic performance). Help me come up with the best material.
Regards,
Tim
Guys,
Thanks for the answers so far. No it's just for personal knowledge. I'm thinking of starting a bike shop here in Rwanda. So I need more assistance especially when it comes to which is cheap, economically reliable and for overall reliability.
Merci!
I went over the answers I don't know if the material mentioned - chrome moly and chromally are even available here in Rwanda so I'd have to dismiss those so please help me out.
The information you request is not nearly enough information to determine what is "best" for a bike frame. I could go into hours-long oratory about materials suitability which I won't do without being paid... and I don't come cheap.
You will need to make your own conclusions after studying the properties of each material and applying that information to the subject frame design.
