With a smaller length, depth and waist as compared to a dreadnought the TF740FS is a "purpose built" professional acoustic-electric guitar. Built with luthier-selected solid tone woods, the Takamine fingerstyle guitar reflects the highest level of commitment to the art and craft of guitar making. The TF740FS OM Fingerstyle is built to react accurately to your particular musical style. The guitar neck's 48mm width, and cutaway design provide plenty of range and comfort for intricate movements. The end result is a beautifully crafted acoustic-electric guitar that is perfect for students and professionals alike. The look is sweet and the playing experience is pure inspiration. The TF740FS OM guitar starts with a select cedar top, presenting balanced tone in a light appearance. The solid mahogany back and sides offer bold projection, with plenty of dynamic range. The rugged ebony fingerboard adds crisp sustain, while the compensated bridge and gold tuners keep the instrument's tuning precise. Other appointments include an abalone rosette, dot inlays, asymmetrical neck, and a gloss natural finish. At the heart of the Takamine fingerstyle guitar is an impressive and intuitive electronics system that allows you to amplify your sound quickly and easily. Takamine's Palathetic pickup offers superior sound balance, high separation, and clear, natural sound. Takamine owes much to the unique design of this device. With six individually shielded piezo-electric transducers—one for each string—the unit is secured beneath the bridge saddle. This unique design allows the pickup to be isolated from the vibration of the body, and enables each transducer to pick up the vibration of the string directly through the bridge saddle, which limits potential feedback, even in a heavy-volume environment. The CoolTube on-board tube preamp features bass and treble tone controls, semi-parametric midrange, a second-source input and blend control, and a chromatic tuner. |

What brand is better for an acoustic electric guitar, Ibanez or Takamine?
I'm looking to buy a new acoustic electric guitar and I've narrowed it down to two. One is an Ibanez and one is a Takamine. Is one of these brands better than the other/of better quality? The people at stores always just tell me it depends what you're looking for...but that doesn't really help!
First let me say, that I've been playing the acoustic guitar for over 10 years. By "playing" I don't mean a couple of hours a week. I play professionally and with other professionals. Over those 10 years, I have have played pretty much most brands of acoustic guitars from Taylor, Gibson, Martin, Breedlove, Takamine, and Fender etc. When it comes to acoustic guitars, I have both a lot of knowledge and experience playing them.
With that said...dollar for dollar you will get much better sound, playability, features, and quality from a Takamine than an Ibanez. One thing you want to stay away from is Jasmine, which is Takamine's lower end guitars. They sound good and have decent features, but they're not as good as an original Takamine. Takamine is known for their steel string acoustic guitars, much like Taylor and Martin are. Ibanez is more known for their electric guitars.
Don't get me wrong, Ibanez makes some nice sounding acoustic guitars, especially their higher end models like the Artwood Series. But Takamine's in the same price range will be much better. Here's a little experiment you can do. Go to your local guitar retailer. Take a Takamine guitar that you've been looking at and play it for about 5-10 minutes. Find an Ibanez guitar in the same price range with similar features and play it also. You will see what I'm talking about when I say that the Takamine will be better!!
When you look at the Takamine guitars, make sure you get a solid top!! A solid top will sound much better than a laminated top because solid wood resonates better than laminated wood. You should also make sure that the guitar sounds almost identical whether plugged in or unplugged to an amp. Look at and play different body styles to see which one is more comfortable for you. I personally like the dreadnought and NEX body styles. The NEX body style is a Takamine exclusive.
If you want, let me know what Takamine models you're looking at and I'll tell you whether or not I've played that specific guitar. If I did, I'll give you the pros and cons of the guitar.
I hope this helps : )
