Why won't my guitar strings resonant when I use a capo and try to play a chord?
I just got my first guitar (but I have playing my friend's for a while, so I know how to properly play a chord) for Christmas and have been trying to learn some songs, but when I try to play using a pick, for example, a C chord with a Capo on the third fret, all I hear is a "dead" string. There is no resonance (vibrated sound). I make sure I am pressing the strings down properly and that my pick is held properly in my hand, so it should not be doing this. Do I need to take it to the music store and have my guitar fixed? Because there also is some random buzzing coming from the E (6th string) and A strings when I try to play certain chords. Help?! Because I really want to play the guitar and properly.

I have moved the Capo around several times, so that is not the problem
More than likely your capo isn't set properly. Try slightly behind the fret.and make sure it's on there tight. Also, acoustic guitar strings have a slight arc, so when you apply a capo, some strings will sit lower on the neck than the others. So that when you press the string(s) down to play a chord, the string touches the fretboard, thus deadening it. It's a common problem.
