Taylor 2012 Koa/Spruce Series Ga-K Acoustic Guitar Natural $3399 Taylors 2012 Koa/Spruce Series GA-K Acoustic Guitar showcases a different appointment package than Taylors other acoustic models. Ivoroid binding applies a time-honored acoustic touch, while sparkling abalone outlines the tops and forms the rosette. All models come standard with a sitka spruce top, with an optional koa top. For an extra vintage look, a shaded edgeburst is offered as a standard model option.Grand Auditorium (GA)The GA-K is offered in Taylors signature shape. The mid-size grand auditorium falls between a dreadnought and grand concert. The shape produces an original acoustic voice that is big enough to handle medium-strength picking and strumming, yet with impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially in the midrange, producing clear, well-defined notes that suited both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The GAs overall presence tracks well with other instruments both in a studio mix and on stage.Hawaiian KoaA tropical hardwood, koa's tone blends the midrange of mahogany with the top end of maple. Due to its density, a new koa guitar tends to start out sounding a little bright and tight, somewhat like maple. The more a koa guitar is played, the more the sound opens up, expanding the midrange and rewarding the player with a richer, sweeter, more resonant tone.Body: grand auditoriumBack/side wood: Hawaiian koaTop wood: sitka spruceNeck/heel: tropical mahoganyElectronics: noneBracing: CV Bracing with Relief RoutBinding: ivoroidFretboard: EbonyFretboard inlay: GA-LTDHeadstock overlay: ebonyBridge inlay: noneBridge pins: ebony with abalone dotsNut and saddle: TusqTuners: Taylor GoldTruss rod cover: ebonyBack/side finish: glossTop finish: glossNeck finish: satinPickguard: noneIncludes Taylor hardshell case |

Taylor Koa Series Ga-K Grand Auditorium 12-String Acoustic Guitar Natural $3449 The Taylor GA-K Grand Auditorium 12-String Acoustic Guitar features a Sitka spruce top and exotic Hawaiian Koa back and sides. Hawaiian koa is a rare and exotic tonewood is prized for its stunning golden hues, bold grain figure, and sweet tone. Other features of the GA-K guitar include abalone trim around the top and soundhole, figured Ivoroid binding, and gold-plated tuners. The grand auditorium is Taylor's most versatile and popular shape. The grand auditorium's balanced mid-range and bright tone, great for miking and recording, exemplify the Taylor voice. The GA-K 12-String Guitar has a powerful and rich tone. When people talk about "the Taylor sound," knowingly or not they're probably describing the Grand Auditorium. Introduced in 1994 as a limited edition to commemorate Taylor's 20th Anniversary, the GA would go on to establish itself as a definitive Bob Taylor original.Tonally, the guitar embodied the signature qualities of balance, clarity, and versatility that became hallmark Taylor traits. Visually, the shape gave the world an equally balanced and refined aesthetic of smooth curves. In both respects, the GA was at once big enough and small enough to cover a lot of ground. The goal, he says, was simply to make a guitar that was big like a dreadnought, but without a dread-nought's traditionally boomy sound. "I was looking for a good, clear tone that had volume when you played fingerstyle, but then when you strummed didn't have too much bass."The GA has the width and depth of a Dreadnought, but its tapered waist and contours give it the appearance of a smaller instrument, making it comfortable to play. The tonal balance means it's full in the lower register, present in the midrange, and sparkling on the treble strings. The GA's tonal balance has made it a favorite among artists AND engineers. "You put a mic in front of the guitar and set everything to zero, you turn on the tape, and you play," Bob continues. "We had a lot of studio owners and engineers buy those guitars just to put in the studio, because when things started going bad with players' guitars during a session, the engineer would say, 'We can get this job done today if you just play this guitar.' So that was sort of what we had in mind with that. And a lot of it was the shape. We made a few bracing changes, but we depended on the shape to change that tone."Play a GA if: You want the Swiss Army Knife of acoustics, capable of handling everything from fingerpicking to medium strumming to moderate flatpicking.Type/Shape: 12-String Grand AuditoriumBack & Sides: Hawaiian KoaTop: Sitka SpruceSoundhole Rosette: AbaloneNeck: Tropical American MahoganyFretboard: Ebony with BindingFretboard Inlay: Abalone Koa SeriesHeadstock Overlay: EbonyBinding: IvoroidBridge: EbonyNut & Saddle: TusqTuning Machines: Gold-plated Taylor TunersStrings: Elixir Light Gauge Strings with Nanoweb CoatingScale Length: 25-1/2 InchesTruss Rod: AdjustableNeck Width at Nut: 1-7/8 Inche |

Taylor 2012 214 Rosewood Grand Auditorium Acoustic Guitar Natural $799 Taylor's 2012 214 Rosewood/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic Guitar features a desirable gloss finish that you'll take a shine to. The Grand Auditorium was the first guitar shape designed from scratch by Bob Taylor. It was unveiled to commemorate the company's 20th Anniversary in 1994, and since then it has more than lived up to its promise. Although the GA guitar has the width and depth of a dreadnought, its narrower waist gives it the appearance of a smaller instrument, adds treble "zing" across the guitar's tonal spectrum, sharpens the definition of individual notes, and also enables it to rest comfortably in the lap. Because Taylor removes mass from the width of the GA's braces, the guitar top moves faster, resulting in a snappy, bell-like tone. The Taylor GA acoustic guitar is designed to be a strong fingerpicking guitar that also can handle medium strumming, and is exceptionally versatile. The Taylor 214 acoustic guitar features a solid Sitka spruce top, a top-quality wood, known for its balanced tone and clarity. The Indian rosewood back and sides, also premiere wood, produces rich, booming sound, with the perfect element of projection. The 25-1/2" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 15" radius adds comfort for intricate movements up and down the ebony fretboard. The NT neck joint fits into a specially cut pocket in the body of the Taylor acoustic guitar. The frets are supported equally by the neck, creating a more stable playing surface, one that is continually straight, from the bottom to the top of the neck. The mahogany neck is strong and provides added presence and clarity in the tone, and the ebony bridge and fretboard bring out lasting sustain. Taylor tuners keep the acoustic guitar in precise tuning and chrome hardware add an extra sleek look to this already stunning offering from Taylor.Excellent sound across the full tonal spectrumBeautiful gloss finish over solid spruce topMahogany neck with smooth ebony fretboardIncludes Taylor gig bag |

Featuring a solid Sitka spruce top and laminated sapele back and sides. The 114 has the signature Taylor guitar look, tone, and feelin an affordable package.Sapele LaminateWhile the rich tones of solid wood remain unmatched, laminates can yield great sound in a beautiful, durable and affordable instrument. Such is the case with sapele laminate, in which we use interior and exterior veneers of sapele with a filler layer between them. One of the benefits of laminates for guitars is extra resilience in the face of fluctuating humidity conditions. This comes in handy for guitars like the GS Mini and Baby Taylor models, which are travel-friendly guitars that may be more directly exposed to different environments. All Taylor laminate models do feature a solid wood top to optimize the tonal response.Grand Auditorium (GA)The GA is Taylors most versatile and popular shape, excelling at light-touch fingerstyle to full-blown strumming. Great for micing and recording, the GAs balanced mid-range and bright tone exemplify the Taylor voice.Comfortable Grand Auditorium body sizeSolid spruce top for great toneSmooth ebony fingerboardTUSQ nut and saddle for improved sustainIncludes Taylor gig bag |

Used Taylor 2012 214Ce Rosewood/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar Natural $869.99 The Taylor 2012 214ce Rosewood/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar features a desirable gloss finish that you'll take a shine to. The Grand Auditorium was the first guitar shape designed from scratch by Bob Taylor. It was unveiled to commemorate the company's 20th Anniversary in 1994, and since then it has more than lived up to its promise. Although the Taylor GA acoustic-electric guitar has the width and depth of a dreadnought, its narrower waist gives it the appearance of a smaller instrument, adds treble "zing" across the guitar's tonal spectrum, sharpens the definition of individual notes, and also enables it to rest comfortably in the lap. Because Taylor removes mass from the width of the GA's braces, the guitar top moves faster, resulting in a snappy, bell-like tone. The Taylor GA acoustic-electric guitar is designed to be a strong fingerpicking guitar that also can handle medium strumming, and is exceptionally versatile. The cutaway feature on the Taylor guitar's body makes reaching the upper-register frets a snap, giving you comfortable access up and down the ebony fret board. The Taylor 214ce guitar features a solid Sitka spruce top, a top-quality wood, known for its balanced tone and clarity. The Indian rosewood back and sides, another premiere wood, produces rich, booming sound, with the perfect element of projection. The 25-1/2" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 15" radius adds comfort for intricate movements up and down the ebony fretboard. The NT neck joint fits into a specially cut pocket in the body of the Taylor guitar. The frets are supported equally by the neck, creating a more stable playing surface, one that is continually straight, from the bottom to the top of the neck. The mahogany neck on the 214ce acoustic-electric guitar is strong and provides added presence and clarity in the tone, and the ebony bridge and fretboard bring out lasting sustain. At the heart of the Taylor 214ceacoustic-electric guitar lies an integrated electronics system, letting you dial in and amplify the guitar quickly and effortlessly. The electronics include bass, treble, and volume controls, for an individualized plugged-in experience. Taylor 2012 Ga6 Maple/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic Guitar Natural $2249 The Taylor 2012 GA6 Maple/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic Guitar features the advantageous combination of figured Big Leaf maple paired with a Sitka spruce top, resulting in an articulate acoustic guitar that impresses in both tone and appearance.Grand Auditorium (GA)Body Width: 16" / Body Depth: 4 5/8" / Body Length: 20"Taylors signature shape embodies the ultimate all purpose acoustic.Taylor's most popular and versatile body shape, the mid-size Grand Auditorium arrived in 1994 bearing refined proportions that fell between a Dreadnought and Grand Concert. While the bigger Dreadnought was traditionally considered a flatpickers guitar and the smaller Grand Concert catered to fingerstylists, the GA was designed to deliver on both fronts. The shape produced an original acoustic voice that was big enough to handle medium-strength picking and strumming, yet with impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially in the midrange, producing clear, well-defined notes that suited both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The GAs overall presence tracks well with other instruments both in a studio mix and on stage, and singer-songwriters have embraced its utility both for composing and traveling with one guitar. Many people want a single guitar that can cover a variety of styles, which is why the GA continues to be our bestselling shape. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the multi-dimensional GA wont let you down.Big Leaf MapleOrigin: Western North AmericaA dense hardwood, maple's tone is like a laser beam very focused and dominant on the fundamental. Often described as having a "bright" sound, maple has fewer overtones than other medium-density woods, resulting in quicker note decay. This makes it a preferred guitar wood for live performance settings with a band especially with bass, drums and electric guitar because it cuts through a mix well, allows the acoustic sound to be heard, and is less prone to feedback issues. It has some midrange, and a lot more treble sparkle than rosewood.Goes Well With: Live band performances, recording, lead players who like clean articulation and note definition, 12-strings, players with dark bone tone.Shape: Grand AuditoriumBack/Side Wood: Big Leaf MapleTop Wood: Sitka SpruceNeck/Heel: Hard Rock MapleElectronics: NoneBracing: Forward Shifted Pattern with Relief RoutBinding: IvoroidFretboard Wood: EbonyFretboard Inlay: 4mm Abalone DotsHeadstock Overlay: Indian RosewoodBridge Inlay: NoneBridge Pins: Ebony with Abalone DotsNut & Saddle: TusqTunersTaylor GoldTruss Rod Cover: Indian RosewoodBack/Side Finish: GlossTop Finish: GlossNeck Finish: GlossCutaway: NonePickguard: NoneCase: Taylor Deluxe Hardshell Brown |

Martin D-15 or Taylor GA?
Which do you prefer? Please state your reason for you preference and feel free to suggest other guitars (preferably acousitc with a thin fretboard.
Whoops I realized I didn't specify who the guitar is for. Well, I want your opinions based on experience but I'll also throw in what I'm looking for.
I have small hands so the flat neck is what I'm looking for and I'm looking for a clearer, brighter sound; so not a bass.
But I also want to hear about what you think about each guitar, not just specific information based on me.
Thanks!
Oh, price is a very important factor too. I'm not going to say I have a specific price range (I'm not expecting to be lucky enough to find something perfect for me that just happens to be in the $500 range). That's just something to keep in mind when talking about pros and cons.
Oh, also. Please don't let your reason be "because my favorite artist plays it". Sorry, I'm not trying to point fingers, its just that that doesn't help me much...
I prefer the GA shape over the D shape.
Apart from that, it would all depend on which DA you're talking about.
First, the sound:
The 000-15 is pretty close to the GA3, tough choice between those two.
I prefer the GA4 over the 000-15.
After that, all GAs blow the 000-15 series away (but of course cost 3-4 times as much as well).
Second, playability:
Can't really tell, haven't had enough time to really compare them, but overall I prefer Taylor necks to Martin necks.
Body shapes are similar enough that there's not much difference in weight and size.
In the end, it's a highly personal decision.
